What is driving the Music consolidation?

Nearly five decades on since Woodstock and the Isle of Wight, ownership of music festivals has consolidated in recent years. AEG has owned Goldenvoice, producers of Coachella, Stagecoach, Firefly and other festivals since 2001.  Live Nation alone produces over 70 festivals a year including Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, EDC and this year acquired Rock in Rio.  In 2016, critics and analysts began to ask whether we had too many festivals with too little differentiation.
