DescriptionFor this fourth bridge assignment, I would like you to write a piece of creative nonfiction about an artist as an act of remembrance and do a short presentation on your work. You can think of “memorializing” as commemorating, honoring, remembering, or paying tribute to someone who is no longer with us.Research: This assignment asks you to use some of the research skills you developed in Bridge 3 to explore the life, work, significance, and influence — on both you and the world at large — of an artist you admire.
Write: With this goal in mind, your “creative memorialization” should include CMOS notes-bibliography-style citations for at least three sources found through the New School library system or elsewhere. The bibliography should be briefly annotated as you did with your sources in Bridge 3. Total length: 500-1,000 words.
Reflect: Please attach a short reflection on the assignment with your final draft. What did you do well? What did you struggle with? Where would you take your work if you had more time?
Present: In class on Dec. 12 everyone will deliver a short presentation on the artist he or she memorialized for Bridge 4. Think of this as the kind of speech you would give at someone’s funeral (also known as an elegy), along with visual aids. You want introduce the person to the audience and show what is so great about him or her.
You may be as creative or as straightforward with the form of this bridge as you wish as long as you fulfill the purpose of the assignment, which is to convey your understanding of and appreciation for the artist and his or her work. See the document “Bridge 4 Suggestions”’ (in Files) for tips.
Grading Criteria
– The paper teaches the reader about the artist and his or her work.
– The paper demonstrates the writer’s connection to or appreciation of this artist.
– The paper draws from at least three trustworthy sources.
– The three sources are properly cited in CMOS Notes / Bibliography style.
– The form of the paper serves the content.
– The paper has been proofread for grammatical correctness.
– The presentation is informative and entertaining.
