Your midterm project will be an essay containing at least 1,250 words
and at least six paragraphs. In this essay, consider the question of the
purpose of writing. Why do people write? What is writing for? You’ll
have to do some research to consider this question, so I’ll expect your
essay to include at least two sources to support its thesis. To cite
them, include a works cited page at the end of the essay; please use the
MLA style.
As I’m reading the essay, I’ll be looking carefully at whether the
sentences follow academic grammatical expectations. I’ll also be
expecting the body paragraphs to follow the TETS pattern. Further, I’ll
be examining how the essay uses quotations from other sources. Finally,
and most importantly, I’ll be looking for evidence of how you thought
about the question as you explain your answer.
