Rhetoric is a term that is broadly used, but its most classical definition is the art of persuasion. When asked to write a rhetorical analysis, you are being asked to identify the aparticular strategies that an author is using to appeal to or persuade a given audience.
Rhetorical Analysis is an examination of how an author or speakers is attempting to persuade us of their point of view. The best way to think of rhetorical analysis is HOW an argument is being presented rather than WHAT the argument is.
The aim of this assignment is to aid in the development of your rhetorical analysis skills —your ability to assess an argument.
In your essay speak to the Ethos, Pathos, and Logos of the speech.
Your goal is to support your thesis, which evaluates the effectiveness of the argument presented by the Ted Talk.
You want to make sure that you provide a sufficient summary of the speech whether in an early body paragraph or throughout your analysis.
It is important to fairly represent the speaker’s views.
If by chance, you use outside sources, be sure to use MLA carefully by citing your sources with in-text citations and providing a Works Cited page. Also, carefully proofread your paper for grammar errors and style.
