Photography Project
This assignment involves making a photo montage in the style of David Hockney and a one page paper explaining your process and how Hockney’s work influenced your piece. You can choose to work in the style of his Brooklyn Bridge photo montage where he stood in one spot and moved the camera up down and right to left, shooting many perspectives and then assembling them into one “cubist” piece. It really helps to ZOOM in on your subject. That way you get smaller bits to work with. This technique can be used to create a portrait as well (the trick is for you to remain stationary and only shift the angle of the camera). Or you can choose to create a work based on his Nathan Swimming montage where photos are kept separate and sequential, recording the passage of time. Look up Hockney’s photo collages on the internet to see examples of his work. Your phone or computer probably has a program for assembling your collage or you can put them into Word or Powerpoint to create your image.
